Why so mych hate on MC1989? (53,074) by Jon from Netherlands
I've never seen so much hate on someone around here. Other people have made comments like that or just plain rude, dirty comments and didn't get so much hate.

The childish/immature lyrics (52,913) by Jon from Netherlands
I agree completely. What does the woman have to do for people to accept her the way she is? I'm sure in the next album there will be songs like this one and songs like "languishing" and "petals". Some lyrics we like more than others that's just the way it is. Mariah said it herself talking about this song:"It's fun. we're having fun". People suggest she should sing other people's lyrics and Mariah already answered that: "you're erking me". None of this is new.

I heard it. Legendary. Better than the studio version.

Yet another list (52,845) by Jon from Netherlands
With the new song I got myself thinking which are my favourite Mariah songs. I compiled a list without putting much thought into it. I leave it just because.
"Vision of Love"
"Hero"
"Honey (Bad Boy Remix)"
"Always Be My Baby"
"Shake it Off (DM meets M remix)"
"Make it happen"
"Touch my body"
"#Beautiful"
"I wish you well"
"Infinity"
HM: "I still believe (Damizza only remix)"

I wonder what she is going to do with this song at Vegas. Together with IDWC and "Someday" it's the only songs she hasn't performed in a long time.

Infinity (52,809) by Jon from Netherlands
The edits that were presented here really show the potential of the song. Some of the parts have to be considered for a radio edit. Specially John's transformation of the bridge into ad-libs over the "mantra". I think that it's the first mantra ever in an MC song (might be wrong) but it's already a classic for me. After my initial reaction of "It's fine" my reaction now is "This is brilliant". Needs to be promoted so people everywhere can enjoy it. It has a great vibe to it. The vocals are perfect. At parts they are close to Mariah's speaking voice and I think it's a great choice. It sounds like the 90's? I don't hear it. It could sound like something more recent but it's pretty unique as a Mariah single. About maturity: Being able to tell what probably was the love of your life that you respect yourself enough not to take him back requires a lot of maturity. More than writing a song like INFY or "Forever". Now if we are talking about "Petals" or "I wish you well" of course that I agree but this is a single. I still don't get the first verses but the second ones are perfect. I don't like everything Mariah does. I disliked "Eternal" a lot. It's Mariah's worst single and possibly the worst song she ever recorded but I love this song. With a good radio edit it would become one of my 10 favourite songs. I think I already prefer it to SIO. PS: Lately I've made some grammar mistakes. Sorry me no good so speak English (also not have mucho patiente to prove rid).

Mariah, pervert and genious (52,770) by Jon from Netherlands
Here is a great discussion on Mariah. A lot of fun to read. The part they call her pervert is funny.

The video has more than 3 million views. TAOLG has yet to reach 2 million. Very curious about where this single is going to peak. I think it will be very sucessful. Once it's in your system is difficult to shake it off. It's also a perfect song to finish a Vegas show. I can see her leaving while singing "ohh ahh". Epic stuff.

I don't get it (52,757) by Jon from Netherlands
I don't understand why when someone doesn't include quotes when mentioning a song it gets censored but when someone uses violent imagery it doesn't. Clearly the person using this kind of speech doesn't know better so it would be pointless to argue with her. It's up to the webmaster to censor it. Maybe it went unchecked. I hope so. We can all have different opinions but violence is a bit too far.

Shelly (52,691) by Jon from Netherlands
That's exactly what I was talking about with my "identification" post. You're this girly girl but still you're intelligent and articulated. I love that. That's why I love Mariah. I hate being judged superficially and I hate the mentality that it's the first impression that counts. What counts is knowing someone deep down. That takes time. The people that take themselves too seriously are wrong. "Oh Mariah is such a bimbo." Maybe they are just jealous they can't have the fun she has. I don't think she is trying to reach anyone with this song, she is doing her own thing. Kudos for people that do their own thing. Sending you some love.

Matini (52,634) / Andrew / Mariah (52,657) by Jon from Netherlands
Matini, I loved your post. Mariah is writing Mariahisms, not some pre-conceived idea of how some people talk. You answered with elegance. Lovely post. Andrew, we all say whatever comes to mind but I believe if we got together we would all be more than happy to be with fellow fans and would get along just fine. I cannot believe that I've never met a fan in real life. What the hell? Where are all these people that bought the song on Monday? I would even be up to go to London for a get together. My life too is Mariah based (as unhealthy as that might be I don't care) and would love to just listen to her music with people that get it. Thanks to the webmaster for keeping this forum going and thanks to Mariah for releasing this song. It contains some weird choices but I'm loving it more and more everyday. Freaking genious in some parts ("you're leaving you're leaving you're out the door" is rocking my world).

To clarify: I meant people that practice cult of personality have no place in the grown up world. Maybe it sounds like bullying and I apologize if so but it freaks me out people that are totally blind and unable to criticize. I was actually saying that in the context of being happy to see die hard fans having a critical point of view. Again if it felt like bullying I apologize.

Infinity (52,534) by Jon from Netherlands
I'm a consumer of music not an expert so I can't see the vocal issues and editing people are talking about. I think the vocals work for the theme of the song, they are raw and emotional. People have also complained about the lyric video: besides being girlish (who could have guessed that) it works and is steps above just having the single cover. It also shows commitment from the people around Mariah. Structure: "Honey" has a weird structure with most of the song being chorus or pre-chorus, the bridge lacking lyrics and being more than 5 minutes long but it's still one of my favorite things ever. This one doesn't work so well but I really only have a problem with the "made up dream" part (it's also too Disneylike for me). I'm always up for complaining and nitpicking but the fact is: if the song was piano driven people would complain, had she used the whistle register people would complain, if it was all about belting people would say she can't do it live, she does the music she likes and people complain she doesn't experiment (with being someone else?). Then people complain she hits a creative wall with certain songs but she has 25 years worth of melodies and I couldn't have it in 25 lifetimes. The fact is people all over the world are downloading this song on its first day and that means she has masses of fans that stay silent but are eager for her material. Maybe that's the reason she didn't promote Vegas: she doesn't need to.

Robin Leach interview (52,528) by Jon from Netherlands
Was that really Mariah answering those questions? When was the last time we saw Mariah so composed? I'm really impressed/surprised. It's a mature attitude without being boring. It's also good to see her own her number ones. No need to be cocky about it but also no need for false modesty. I would say she striked the perfect tone with that interview. Very honest, very good.

Infinity (52,521) by Jon from Netherlands
I liked it from the first listen and normally it takes me a while to like any song at all. Doesn't mean it will be a favorite for years to come but it got stuck in my head very easily. Lyric wise: some very good parts, some very questionable ones. Do I like the lyrics? On one hand "leave my heart on the mat for me" breaks my heart and works very well (as in "leave it for me to mend", a lot of us can relate and it's very powerful imagery), on the other hand I have no clue what she is talking about in the first verses and don't care to find out. She needs to reload? It also takes you from fritos to loans ("you still owe"). It's all over the place and undermines the possibility of a classic. Was it better lyric wise and with better production on the first verses so that you could understand what she is saying and it could be Mariah's "I will survive". The infinity part is also weak. Having said that I can emotionally connect to the song and find the second verses perfect ("ain't no being friends" and so on is on point). "You're leaving, you're out the door" is also very empowering. For those complaining Mariah needs to go back to her roots: this song is Mariah being herself. A song like "Hero" is exactly what Mariah is not. People just never caught up to that. I will continue to listen to the song cause overall it works for me and I'm enjoying it. PS: I love to see some die-hard fans criticize the song. People that think criticizing Mariah is heresy have no place in the grown up world.

"Did I do that?"/"Someday"/"Shake it off"/"You need me"/"You had your chance"/"Up out my face"/"It's a wrap"/"You don't know what to do". The girl can write a good "we're done here" song and I'm hoping Infinity has the same kind of theme and it's an upbeat song to party to.

Identification (52,078) by Jon from Netherlands
I was wondering if anyone wanted to discuss the way they identify with Mariah. There are so many similarities between mine and her personality and at this point I don't know if she has influenced me or if I identify with her because I have some of the same traits. I'll start by saying that I identify with the way she presents herself. She doesn't come off high and mighty. She doesn't care to portray herself as the smart, driven and talented person she is. Most of the time she is joking around, even using private jokes and it seems she doesn't care if people see her as a bimbo. She knows her value and doesn't care to be judged on the first impression. I do the same. I'll throw in a few jokes, be nonchalant about a few things and overall misrepresent myself and surprise people when they get a chance to see that I'm actually a decently intelligent person. I find that people actually take these things seriously, have little sense of humor and do judge others based on a few impressions. That's why I love Mariah. She gets that life is not supposed to be all serious and judging others on the surface (maybe because she's biracial) is absurd.

MC1989 (52,064) by Jon from Netherlands
Thanks for the love. Sending it right back. I just watched the Manilla performance. Such a pity for the bad quality because it's definetly some of her best (the final part might be the best) renditions of VOL. She doesn't shy away from any of the difficult parts. So many performances, so difficult to keep up with all of them. I watched yesterday a compilation of E=MC2 era and there were a bunch of performances I've never seen. I'm gonna need an assistant.

Mariah's best performance / Randy (52,060) by Jon from Netherlands
I know people prefer the crystal clear voice of, for example, Tokyo 96 and don't get me wrong I love it too but the performance I posted, to me, is more overwhelming. It's like a guitar: you can play every note perfectly and clean or you can add a bit of distortion and creat greater impact on the audience. The performance showcases different sides of her voice and it's very strong here. The final run (on the "all") has multiple times more stamina than the run on the MTV Unplugged for the same song. I also like the powerful "treated me kind" ending in a growl and being followed immediatly by one of her best whistling. Through it all it seems she's having a blast and that's also fun to watch. Not to mention the production around her: flawless (great drumming btw).

The real nostalgia (51,942) by Jon from Netherlands
I'm thinking how I'm gonna look back decades from now at songs like Heartbreaker, ABMB or others that marked an era. I think it's gonna be very painful to look back to those great moments and the energy, the life, the love, the youth that was into all of that. Mariah won't just be a souvenir of the past but life itself. The dreams, heartbreaks, iconic moments all translated into music and a catalogue that comprises almost any situation of life. What will be like if a moment comes when she doesn't put music out anymore? She's been a guide through it all. Most of the time my life and hers (or at least her music) followed paralel paths. If she wasn't in my life there would be something missing and I wouldn't even know what. Sorry for being a downer but I was reading about her number ones and it hit me that those songs belong to a moment in time that won't come back. Just like life. We might hear the songs again and again but Mariah is never going to be the same as she was when she filmed the Heartbreaker video and I'll never be the same as I was when I first saw it. I'm wishing I could go back and just relive it all. Especially the Glitter era. I was so eager to listen to the new music and she didn't disappoint me. She never did.

Poor Mariah (51,895) by Jon from Netherlands
Everybody expects so much from her. This next song is already expected to be number 1. How that woman can remain somehow grounded and still enjoy the business is a testament to her personality. It's been too long on the spotlight, too long living under tremendous pressure. She should hold the record for the person that's been able to keep it relatively together under such stress. Others have developed a bitchy personality but Mariah seems to be light hearted despite it all. Patricia Carey should get an award. Baby said a few days ago that Mariah was the hardest working person in the industry. That hasn't been true for years but still people expect her to be the 20 years hold Mariah that was eager to prove herself. Maybe she's been telling us lately that she doesn't want to be that Mariah anymore but we just don't listen. Fortunately she's still motivated to make music.
