MTV lands acts for new music week

Will Smith, Mariah Carey, Rage Against the Machine, Dr. Dre and Korn will join MTV for "Spankin' New Music Week," which runs on the music cable network Nov. 1-5. To celebrate the week, MTV will premiere "Artist TV," featuring a different artist each day at 5 p.m. live from MTV's Times Square studios. In addition, MTV will premiere a new video during "Total Request Live" each afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and air a one-hour music-performance special each night at 11 p.m.

Alanis Morissette will kick off the evening performance series with "Alanis Unplugged." MTV and Maverick Records will release Morissette's show as an album Nov. 23. Fiona Apple, Rage Against the Machine and Beck will also perform during the series.

MTV also announced plans on Monday for "Fly 2K," the network's custom-made, millennium DC-10 party plane, which will take off from New York City on Dec. 20 with 10 contest winners aboard. "Fly 2K," which will feature in-flight entertainment by the Goo Goo Dolls and 98 Degrees, will tour around the world before arriving in Times Square in time for MTV's New Year's Eve Millennium Bash. Bush, Blink 182 and Christina Aguilera will also perform at the New Year's Eve party at MTV's Times Square studios.
