Mariah Carey has a good day

Life is good for Mariah Carey, especially when it comes to CD sales. Early figures from Hits Daily Double suggest that Mariah's "E=MC2" may just go over the 600,000 sales mark for the first week in the USA.

Number one albums have been on the weak side for the last few weeks. This week, Leona Lewis' "Spirit" topped the US chart with sales of around 210,000. Last week, George Strait's "Troubadour" was number one with just 166,000 units sold.

Mariah is going against the industry tradition of sliding sales with "E=MC2". The title is expected to do almost 200,000 more in the first week than her last album "The Emancipation of Mimi". That album went on to sell 5.8 million units in the USA.

She has had a total turn-around in her career in the 21st Century after being all but written off with the "Glitter" album of 2001. Mariah may have jumped the gun with her incorrect announcement about beating Elvis Presley for the number of number one hits (actually she equaled Presley's record of 18 number 1 hits), but "E=MC2" is having an outstanding sales week in the USA against the downturn in the music industry.
