Mariah Carey sets singles record

"Heartbreaker," the first single from Mariah Carey's forthcoming album, has given the young diva entrance into some pretty exclusive circles. The single, which sold 271,000 copies in its first week of release, quickly became the No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Carey's 14th No. 1 song. Only two other acts have succeeded in having that many No. 1 songs - and neither of them have released any music in quite some time. Elvis Presley had 18 No. 1 songs, and the Beatles had 20.

In fact, with the success of "Heartbreaker," Carey has had a No. 1 single every year this decade - a feat that hasn't been accomplished since Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra did it in the 1920s. Carey, who has sold more than 115 million albums worldwide, will release her new album, Rainbow, on Nov. 2.
