Happy anniversary Mariah

Thirty-four years ago today in the spring of 1970, a very special woman was born. Mariah Carey, the baby of the family, was born to Patricia and Alfred Roy Carey in Long Island, New York. She was named after the song "They Call The Wind Mariah" from Lerner and Loewe's Broadway hit Paint Your Wagon.

Even as a child, Mariah knew she wanted to sing. In fact, Mairah first showed her talent as a singer as a toddler. Wwhile her mother, Patricia, was rehearsing for her part in Rigoletto for the NYC Opera, Patricia missed her cue. "But Mariah didn't," Mariah's mother says, "She sang it in Italian and she wasn't yet three years old."

As Mariah grew up, she spent hours mastering her vocal abilities and recording demos. After years of determination and simply hard work, she eventually did get her record deal, and a little more than three decades after her birth, Mariah has become the world's best-selling female artist.
