Concert pushing through

Mariah Carey, after all, is going to Manila for a concert. Soon after we printed the news that Mariah Carey is not anymore going to perform in Asia this year, our source immediately called us to tell us of the progressive development on the deal that Asian promoters have been trying to strike with the camp of the international singer.

We were told last Monday that the negotiations to hold the Asian leg of Mariah Carey's "Charmbracelet World Tour 2003" have opened again. And the good news is that, last Wednesday, the deal was finally sealed when both camps have ironed out the kinks.

Mariah Carey is going to be in Manila for a performance on Nov. 16 (original concert schedule is Nov. 23) at the open field of The Fort at the Fort Bonifacio Global City. The show is being presented by Tommy Hillfiger Watches and MTV Philippines, in cooperation with No Curfew. You can get your tickets now at all Ticketworld outlets. They are priced reasonably at R5,000; R2,500; R1,500 and R500.

We were told that Mariah's group has decided to push through with the Asian leg of the world tour after the target number of cities where she is to perform in this part of the world has been met by the local promoters. We reported last Sunday that the six-city guarantee has not been met after possibly Taiwan and Malaysia failed to secure venues to hold the concerts at the specified time frame (first weeks of November and December). Last week, four cities only have confirmed and booked for Mariah's concerts in Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing and Manila.

The source told us that the two countries mentioned earlier still failed to secure the venues, but the "hollow" these two countries left in the wake of the Asian tour was filled ostensibly by Shanghai and Hong Kong for the holding of its Harbour Music Festival starting end third week of October until second week of November. Bangkok, for its part, according to our source, is still trying its best to secure its venue after the concert dates have been moved unexpectedly earlier.

The source told us Shanghai promoters agreed to a higher fee for Mariah just to have the Asian tour commence this year. The better part for the Manila promoters, according to our source, is that Manila paid less after its initial date pegged on Nov. 23 was moved back a week earlier giving the local promoters less time to prepare for it. Thus, the concert is now pushing through, not just in Manila but the rest of the Asia.
