Mariah unveils new album underneath the stars

When Mariah Carey released "Underneath The Stars" on her massively successful "Daydream" album in 1995, she could hardly have imagined that seven years later she'd be fighting off the worst publicity of her career, only to emerge triumphant and be sitting underneath the stars as it were at New York City’s Hayden Planetarium. Yet that's exactly where she was last night - joined by her fans, her friends, and the ever-critical media for a preview of her latest offering, "Charmbracelet".

The guest list included the likes of Cam'ron, Anastasia, Da Brat, Randy Jackson, Naomi Campbell, Trey Lorenz, Pras Michel, Lyor Cohen, Jerry Blair and many Def Jam/MonarC staff. However, it was Mariah's fans who received the most attention. Despite being pulled in all directions, Carey still had time to pose for photos and oblige eager fans with autographs.

"She individually spoke and signed everything for everybody," revealed Nicole (MariahBuzz.com), a fan who had flown all the way from Australia just for the event. "We were treated unbelievably by Mariah," she continued, obviously in awe of her idol. "She looked better than fantastic!"

When it was time to get a sneak peak at one of the most anticipated albums of the year, the lights went down to reveal a sea of stars and planets scrolling across the dome shaped ceiling - Mariah’s new material floating effortlessly from the powerful sound system. While all material was of an extremely high standard and it can easily be inferred that Mariah is about to head back to the dizzying heights of success experienced in her early years in the industry, what was most interesting was her cover song. In the past she's covered Phil Collins, Brenda K. Starr and even Prince - but for the new album you'll be hearing her version of Def Leopard classic, "Bringin' On The Heartbreak"! Hard to imagine, but it is a musical feat that is sure to arose much interest.

The aforementioned ever-critical press were suitably pleased with what they had heard. The New York media set are often known for being extremely conservative, however surprisingly they initiated the standing ovation, which concluded the album preview and signalled the beginning of the VIP party where we imagine much Cristal was flowing.

Many thanks to Mariah Downunder.
