Mariah Carey alludes to split with husband Nick Cannon

She has dubbed herself the "elusive chanteuse" and Mariah Carey certainly lived up to that name when she addressed her recent marriage breakdown. The 44-year-old hit-maker has split from her husband and father to her two twins Moroccan and Monroe, Nick Cannon, but only briefly alluded to her personal heartbreak.

In an interview with Channel 10's breakfast show Studio 10, the Fantasy singer didn't address the split directly but her feelings were clear. "Each song is a different side of who I am and in some of them there's a lot of truths that I'm talking about," she said, in the interview from her home in the US. "Some of them are kind of sad and almost too sad, really. I call it the misery. I love it and we have to have it."

Canon, 33, first confirmed that the pair were living apart back in August and that they would be separating permanently. But the television host, writer, producer, director and singer harbours no hard feelings towards his ex-wife - who he married in 2008 after a whirlwind two month romance.

"What infuriates me most is to hear people slander Mariah Carey," he wrote to his 4.9 million followers on Twitter. "I will forever be in debted [sic] to her for blessing me with our children. I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. Mariah Carey is an amazing mother and I trust her wholeheartedly."

Meanwhile, Carey seems to be focusing on her career as she gets ready to head to Australia in November for her second national tour in as many years. Despite being one of the most successful singers of all time - with over 200 million albums sold and more number one US singles than any other artist - she told Studio 10 she still wants to do more.

"I definitely haven't accomplished everything I want to accomplish," she said. "There are different facets of the entertainment world and I really want to explore all of them. I just really need the right team around."
