Mariah Carey "heartbroken" after Troy Davis execution

After numerous appeals and peaceful protests, Georgia inmate Troy Davis was executed Wednesday night. Addressing not only his death but the legal system, when it comes to justice, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Nick Cannon, and more say his death will not be in vain.

"Very heartbreaking," Mariah Carey said late Wednesday night, pointing fans toward Davis' last letter. "Can't believe this is going on in 2011." Echoing his wife, Nick Cannon said "Injustice somwhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

"We need more leaders and less celebs. It amazing how opinionated we are on twitter but we still have the lowest voting registration," Cannon went on to say at one point. "I wish more people wanted to be community stars instead of reality stars."

As widely reported, lawyers for Davis had attempted one last appeal with the Supreme Court Wednesday, holding off his execution for three hours. He was declared dead however at 11:08pm ET.
